How to record your screen and compress the result
Screen recordings are the backbone of tutorials and bug reports — but they're huge. Here's the complete workflow, all in-browser.
Step 1: record
Windows: Win+G opens the Game Bar recorder. macOS: Cmd+Shift+5. Your phone: most have built-in screen recorders.
Step 2: trim
Cut the dead space with our Video Trimmer — remove the awkward start and the fumbling at the end.
Step 3: compress
Screen recordings compress extremely well — flat UI areas have tons of redundancy. Our Video Compressor at CRF 30-32 will typically shrink a 500MB recording to under 50MB with no visible difference.
Pro tips
- Record at 1080p, not 4K — text stays sharp at 1080p and files are 4× smaller
- Pause before clicking so viewers can follow
- Extract audio for a podcast-style narration with Video to MP3
